Red Totems

Red Totems at Elm Park 2009

Red Totems is a temporary sculpture installation that can be displayed for a single day or as long as 6 months. First installed at the 2009 Art in the Park sculpture exhibit in Elm Park, Worcester, it survived 3 months of rain, wind, and human interaction despite the relatively fragile material used: more than 2,000 red plastic party plates. Many viewers mistake the totems for turned wood, until they inspect them close-up. In addition to the installation, the artist offers creative workshops, teaching children and adults to create the totems as a series of art fairs and street festivals.
